One of the childhood places that fostered Dr. Johnson’s education was going to the public library after school. She remembers dazzling magic shows, participating in fun exercise classes, and meeting wonderful tutors. Ambereley went to the Boerne public library when it was located at the Dienger Building. As a child, she remembers the excitement of the scary movie nights. The library has enriched all our lives!
Our office decided to support the Patrick Heath Public Library – Children’s Corner by sponsoring a charging station for the children’s phones, tablets, and other digital devices. When should kids have their eyes examined?
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), infants should have their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age. Children then should receive additional eye exams at 3 years of age, and just before they enter kindergarten or the first grade at about age 5 or 6. Dr. Johnson is dedicated to helping children see their best! She is the only eye doctor in Boerne who participates in InfantSEE for children 6 months – 1 year old!
For school-aged children, the AOA recommends an eye exam every two years if no vision correction is required. Children who need eyeglasses or contact lenses should be examined annually or according to their eye doctor’s recommendations. School screenings are not adequate and often miss vision issues.
