Your Baby’s First Eye Assessment is Free with Dr. Susan Johnson

babyBoerne Vision Center welcomes family doctor of optometry, Dr. Susan L. Johnson, who is proud to be the first doctor in Boerne to participate in the InfantSEE® program. InfantSEE®, a public health program, managed by Optometry Cares® – the AOA Foundation, is designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an essential part of infant wellness care to improve a child’s quality of life. Under this program, participating optometrists provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment between 6 and 12 months of age as a no-cost public service. Even if no eye or vision problems are apparent, the American Optometric Association recommends scheduling your baby’s first eye assessment at 6 months.

During the assessment, there are no shots or cold stethoscopes. Dr. Johnson will test for:

  • Excessive or unequal amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism
  • Eye movement ability
  • Eye health problems

Many infants seem to enjoy the “games” that are played as part of the professional assessment. After the visit, it is recommended the next exam to be scheduled at 3 years old, then again at 5 years old, before kindergarten. Yearly eye exams are recommended for school-age children and teens. Vision development and eye health problems are easier to correct if treatment begins early. These problems are not common, but it is important to identify children who have them at a young age. Dr. Johnson is honored to serve you. She is currently accepting new patients and accepts most insurances. Please call Boerne Vision Center, 830-331-8745, to schedule an appointment.
